The Tennessee Titans have agreed to a new contract extension with backup quarterback Matt Cassel, who was set to be a free agent on March 9, the team announced Thursday.
The terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but Cassel received a two-year deal worth $5.25 million, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
With starter Marcus Mariota still recovering from a fractured fibula, Cassel will likely take a significant amount of the Titans' practice snaps this offseason.
Cassel played in four games last season, throwing for 284 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
