Report: Peterson remains unsigned due to high asking price

Adrian Peterson's contract demands are reportedly the reason why the running back remains available over two weeks since free agency began.

The former NFL MVP has a high asking price, and is looking for more than $8 million in the first year of his contract, league sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Le'Veon Bell is the only running back set to make more than $8 million in 2017, and that's under the $12.12-million franchise tag. His number is likely to decrease once a long-term deal is agreed.

Peterson is 32 years old and coming off a knee injury, so it remains to be seen whether any team wants him enough to pay him like an elite back.

The Green Bay Packers reportedly considered bringing in Peterson, but ultimately passed on a meeting until potentially after the draft. Other teams have been linked to the veteran runner, but there's been no talk of Peterson entering serious negotiations with any potential suitors.
