Former President Barack Obama will be in attendance at former Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney's funeral to pay tribute to the impactful NFL figure, a spokesman told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Monday.
Rooney was a supporter of Obama during his electoral campaigns and was appointed as the United States Ambassador to Ireland under the former president.
After Rooney's death last Thursday, Obama issued a statement from he and his family calling the Steelers chairman "a great friend" and "a model citizen."
Obama is not expected to make any public remarks at the ceremony, which is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. EST in Pittsburgh.
