Steelers' Sammie Coates: Moving down depth chart
Coates (hand, groin) will likely slot in as the Steelers' fourth or fifth receiver entering training camp following a disappointing 2016 season, Paul Zeise of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports.
Analysis:
Coates was expected to solidify himself as the Steelers' No. 3 wideout during his second NFL season, but finished with just 21 catches in 14 games. The impending return of Martavis Bryant from a year-long absence won't help Coates' case for retaining a prominent role in the offense in 2017. Even if he's gradually phased out of the passing game, Coates still looks like he's still in line for a meaningful role on special teams, where he figures to serve as the team's primary kick returner.
