Titans' Tajae Sharpe: Facing major competition from rookies
The Titans drafted Corey Davis (ankle) in the first round and Taywan Taylor in the third round to join Sharpe, Rishard Matthews and Harry Douglas in the wideout corps, ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky reports.
Analysis:
Selected in the fifth round last year, Sharpe surprisingly opened his rookie season as Tennessee's No. 1 wideout, but he eventually slipped behind Matthews in the pecking order, ultimately catching only 41 of 83 targets for 522 yards (6.3 yards per target) and two touchdowns in 16 games. The Titans responded by drafting two of the most productive wideouts in college football history, first nabbing Davis at No. 5 overall and then trading up to take Taylor at No. 72. Given his inefficient production last season, Sharpe could slip to No. 4 on the depth chart by Week 1. The Titans presumably expect Davis to emerge as the top target within his first season or two, with Matthews, Sharpe and Taylor filling in behind in some order. Led by Marcus Mariota, the Tennessee offense has an impressive stockpile of young talent, along with some proven veterans in Matthews, DeMarco Murray and Delanie Walker.
