Jamaal Charles: 'I always wanted to play for Denver'
If Jamaal Charles hopes to be welcomed back to Kansas City with open arms, he's off to a poor start.
In his first comments since signing with the Denver Broncos on Tuesday, the former Kansas City Chiefs running back endeared himself to a new fan base, while alienating an old one.
"I always wanted to play for Denver," Charles said, according to a press release. "Growing up, John Elway was one of my favorite players."
Charles played for the Chiefs, a Broncos rival, for the first nine years of his career. After they released him this offseason, he's excited for a chance at revenge.
"I'm just happy I get to play (the Chiefs) twice a year," he said.
Coming off a torn ACL, many have doubted whether Charles can still contribute, but the 30-year-old back said he's ready to prove doubters wrong.
"It's not about the money ... I want to prove people wrong," he said. "A lot of people see me not being successful, but I don't see that. I see it another way.
"I see going out there and helping the team win and helping the team get to the playoffs."
