Spicer compares Clinton's election loss to Falcons' Super Bowl collapse
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer compared Hillary Clinton's defeat in the presidential election to the Atlanta Falcons' Super Bowl collapse, during his briefing Wednesday.
Clinton recently said that she would've won the election if FBI director James Comey didn't write a letter to Congress on Oct. 28, 2016, requesting an investigation into her private email server as it may have contained classified information. Although many pundits believed Clinton would become the next president, Donald Trump emerged victorious on Nov. 8.
Spicer, a noted New England Patriots supporter, said Clinton's loss was akin to the Falcons blowing a 28-3 lead during Super Bowl LI.
"I'm a Patriots fan and I think if games ended in the third quarter, there would have been a different team here last week. But you play a game (for) four quarters and you play an election until election day," Spicer said during his press briefing Wednesday.
It may not be the most apt comparison given that polling data is largely incomplete during the election cycle, but Spicer has proven that he'll try to get a Patriots reference in whenever possible.
