Tony Romo stumbles in qualifier for U.S. Open
Tony Romo's bid to qualify for the U.S. Open was intercepted.
The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback shot 3-over-par at a local qualifier in Annetta, Texas on Monday and won't advance to the sectional stage of qualifying for June's major, according to Kevin Spain of USA TODAY Sports.
Though disappointed with his result, Romo relished the opportunity.
"It was fun to be back out competing," he said, according to Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
"It's been a while, really, since I've felt the feeling of the competitive aspect in the golf world. So, it's been good. Just starting back up."
Romo, who tied for 40th place, was among 107 players battling for seven spots in the sectional qualifier.
A large contingent of Cowboys fans made it out to the Split Rail Links and Golf Club to catch a glimpse of Romo on a new field.

Romo retired from football in April to begin a career as a broadcaster for CBS.
