Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis will be taking an absence to address a "minor health issue," the team announced Tuesday.
The Bengals didn't reveal what the issue was, but Lewis is reportedly battling a blood clot in his ankle, according to the NFL Network's Stacey Dales.
Lewis could be back later this week, but special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons will take over his duties for the time being.
The statement reads as follows:
Coach Marvin Lewis will be taking time away from the team to focus on a minor health issue. He will be back as soon as possible, which could be today or later this week. Special Teams Coordinator Darrin Simmons will lead the team during Coach Lewis' absence.
Lewis, the Bengals' head coach since the 2003 season, has compiled a 118-103-3 record.
