Large group of Browns players kneel in circle during anthem before MNF
A group of Cleveland Browns, which appeared to include Jamie Collins, Duke Johnson, Kenny Britt, Jabrill Peppers, and Seth DeValve, kneeled during the national anthem before Monday's preseason game against the New York Giants.
This is the largest anthem demonstration any team has displayed during this preseason. At least 10 players participated in the huddle, according to Daryl Ruiter of CBS Cleveland. Rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer stood near the group as well.
Head coach Hue Jackson said early last week that he would prefer players not participate in a demonstration, but later clarified that he is not against any protests.
"There are many effective ways athletes can utilize their platform if they so desire, but I would respect any individual decision as ultimately it would be the player's choice after much thoughtful dialogue," said Jackson.
The Browns released a statement during Monday's game expressing that they would prefer players stand for the anthem, but respect the freedom to demonstrate.
