Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo gave a lot of thought to extending his NFL career before ultimately deciding to retire and join CBS as a broadcaster. A lot of thought.
Speaking Wednesday at a CBS network talent availability event, Romo said there were four teams he was seriously considering extending his career for, according to Conor Orr of NFL.com.
Romo's list started at many more than four teams.
When asked if he gave any thought to joining the New York Jets, who are set to begin their season with Josh McCown under center and Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty expected to receive weekly consideration as alternatives, Romo didn't respond with the expected outright 'no.'
"I took a look at them, I'm not going to say if they were in the final four, but I did take a look," said Romo.
"I went through a lot of teams," Romo said. "There was a lot of discussion about, you know - I narrowed the focus to about four teams and from there, obviously I made the decision to come to CBS."
Perhaps the Jets will be able to use Romo's rejection as bulletin-board material when he covers their Week 9 Thursday-night game against the Buffalo Bills.
