Steelers sign GM Colbert to 2-year extension
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed general manager Kevin Colbert to a two-year extension Thursday. The deal will keep Colbert in the fold through the 2020 NFL Draft.
"Kevin's dedication and diligent work have played a major role in our success," team president Art Rooney II said in the release. "We are pleased he will continue to lead our personnel efforts for at least the next three years."
Colbert joined the Steelers in 2000. He spent the first 11 seasons as the team's director of football operations and the last seven as GM. In that time, the team has played in three Super Bowls, winning Super Bowl XL in 2005 and Super Bowl XLIII in 2008.
The Steelers have made postseason appearances and won 10-plus games in each of the past three seasons.
Most recently, Colbert traded for former San Francisco 49ers tight end Vance McDonald and, on Wednesday, signed free-agent cornerback Joe Haden to fortify the team's roster entering the 2017 season.
The Steelers have traditionally eschewed turnover for loyalty in their leadership positions. The franchise has had but three head coaches since 1969 and four general managers over that period of time.
