Cincinnati Bengals first-rounder John Ross is expected to miss the season opener and potentially Week 2 with a knee sprain, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The Bengals play on a Thursday night in Week 2 against the Houston Texans, so the quick turnaround likely means the wide receiver returns in Week 3.

Ross wasn't expected to be a huge factor in the Bengals' offense early in the season as he transitions to the NFL level. The speedster appeared in the team's last two preseason games, catching just one pass for six yards - though he did have two carries for 33 yards.

A.J. Green and Brandon LaFell will continue to start in Ross' absence, while Tyler Boyd likely receives an increased role.
