Steelers' Bell isn't asking for more carries during contract year

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell is in a contract year, but isn't asking for special treatment as he aims for top-tier quarterback money next summer, he told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Bell will be paid $12.1 million in base salary during the 2017 campaign, making him the highest-paid running back in the NFL by a wide margin. However, he missed most of the team's preseason activities due to his demand for a contract that would put him on par with the highest-paid players in the league.

The Steelers' standout returned just days before the Steelers' season opener against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday and was used sparingly during their 21-18 win, rushing for 32 yards on 10 carries, while adding 15 receiving yards on three catches.

Bell isn't worried about his usage, however.

"I'm just trying to run the plays that are called to the best of my ability and make plays when the opportunities present themselves," he said. "I just have to get better at that and hopefully will do that this week."

Bell said he wants to be out on the field as often as possible, but is doing his best to be a team player with the Steelers focused on another deep playoff run this year.

"However they plan to use me, I'll be available," he added. "I'll do the best that I can. ... Of course, I want to be out there every play. I'm just executing the game plan and doing what I'm told."
