NFL Players Association president Eric Winston joined the chorus of criticism aimed at Donald Trump following the president's disparaging remarks about NFL players who protest during the national anthem.
In a statement Saturday, the free-agent offensive tackle said Trump's comments "were a slap in the face" to all Americans, from civil rights heroes to soldiers:
Winston isn't the first prominent league official to hit back at Trump.
Commissioner Roger Goodell said the president's "divisive" words "demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL ... and all of our players," while NFPLA director DeMaurice Smith said, "No man or woman should ever have to choose a job that forces them to surrender their rights."
