Demonstrations grew in size and impact last week in the NFL after President Donald Trump criticized players who take a knee during the anthem.
Among those who knelt in Week 3 were members of the New England Patriots, to a chorus of boos from the Gillette Stadium crowd.
What began as a protest of racial injustice in America took on a different form Sunday, and Patriots safety Devin McCourty is concerned about the possibility of players sending mixed messages.
"I think the biggest thing is, as players, we've got to keep in the forefront of what we want to get (across), the inequality," McCourty said Thursday, according to Adam Kurkjian of the Boston Herald.
"I think that's what's important. We've got to make sure this whole thing doesn't turn into the NFL vs. Donald Trump. ... As players, we have an agenda of what we think can be done better and we're trying to use our platform, and I think we have to stick to that."
