Miles Killebrew's heart is with those in his home state of Nevada.
The Detroit Lions safety awoke Monday morning to news of a mass shooting in Las Vegas. A native of nearby Henderson, Nev., Killebrew revealed that of the hundreds of people wounded at a shooting at a country music concert, six are friends of his.
"It was heartbreaking. I had texts asking if my family was OK, and I didn't know what they were talking about. So I was able to read and see what was going online, and my heart was broken," Killebrew said Monday to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.
"That's when I started reaching out to people who I knew back home. That's when I got news of things that were happening. I was able to see online what was going on. It's senseless."
Among the wounded is a friend who Killebrew considers a soulmate. His mother is a country music fan and could have been present at the Route 91 Harvest Festival; however, she traveled to Minnesota for Killebrew's game against the Vikings on Sunday.
"Just love who's around you right now, because this day and age, you never know what's going to happen," Killebrew said.
"Just show some love to the people around you, if you can. Sometimes that's all you can do."
