Fantasy Fallout: Disastrous Sunday leaves Giants' offense a wasteland

William Hauser / USA TODAY Sports

Fantasy managers should do their best to steer clear of the New York Giants' offense following a Sunday outing that made the team's now 0-5 record one of its lesser concerns.

The Giants' top three wide receivers - Odell Beckham Jr., Sterling Shepard, and Brandon Marshall - and depth receiver/kick-and-punt returner Dwayne Harris were all forced from the game versus the Los Angeles Chargers with various lower-body injuries.

Beckham and Marshall could miss extended time, while Shepard's status is completely up in the air. Should he be ready to return in the near future, he would vault from the No. 3 receiver to the top of the depth chart.

The losses left Roger Lewis and rookie tight end Evan Engram as the only notable healthy pass-catchers for quarterback Eli Manning by the end of the game. Lewis caught one 29-yard touchdown, while Engram was held without a reception.

The depleted receiving corps limited Manning to 21-of-36 on pass attempts for the day, totaling 225 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Running backs Orleans Darkwa and rookie Wayne Gallman managed an impressive 126 rushing yards combined on just 19 attempts.

Engram is the only Giants pass-catcher worthy of consideration at this point, with his value at its highest in PPR leagues. He's the most prominent member of an offense that will now likely struggle to move the chains.

Managers can take their chances on one running back or the other, but only in the right matchups. Their respective ceilings will be capped while splitting the work.

Lewis, and any practice squad receivers promoted into the starting lineup, won't be worth a waiver claim ahead of the Giants' Week 6 matchup with the Denver Broncos. Manning can be dropped in all formats.
