Goodell's wife admits defense of husband with secret Twitter account

Roger Goodell's biggest supporter is reportedly lurking in the shadows on Twitter.

Goodell often comes under scrutiny for his handling of various league issues as NFL commissioner, and his wife, Jane, admitted that she has come to her husband's defense using a secret Twitter account.

The Wall Street Journal was the first to report the story and Jane Goodell didn't deny the veracity of her online persona.

"It was a REALLY silly thing to do and done out of frustration-and love. As a former media member, I'm always bothered when the coverage doesn't provide a complete and accurate picture of a story. I'm also a wife and a mom. I have always passionately defended the hard-working guy I love - and I always will. I just may not use Twitter to do so in the future," Goodell wrote to the Journal.

Goodell presented her arguments under the handle "@forargument" with the moniker "Jones Smith" a potential portmanteau of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith.

She responded to a Sept. 26 tweet from Pro Football Talk, where the outlet opined that it was the commissioner's responsibility to solve any conflict regarding protests during the national anthem.

"Please do better reporting. He is already doing this. You are behind," she wrote from the @forargument account.

The account has since been deleted.

"Sounds like what she did is what every spouse in America would want to do," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said.
