Hall of Fame Miami Dolphins linebacker Nick Buoniconti has announced that he intends to donate his brain to concussion research.
A member of the 1972 Dolphins team that went undefeated, the now 76-year-old has suffered from cognitive issues in recent years.
"This is not easy, it's difficult. I'm not half the man I used to be," Buoniconti said, according to ESPN. "I don't do this for myself. I do it for the thousands of others who will follow me."
Buoniconti played for 14 seasons, during which he made six AFL All-Star Games and two Pro Bowls. After his death, his brain will be donated to Boston University's CTE research program.
