The Green Bay Packers have begun the process of trying to reclaim a portion of the $6.3-million signing bonus they gave to tight end Martellus Bennett this past offseason, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.

The team has filed paperwork to collect a portion of that bonus, after they released him earlier this season under the designation of failing to disclose a medical condition.

Bennett was signed to a three-year, $21-million contract as a free agent. The Packers are aiming to recover the $4.2 million left on Bennett's bonus as the pro-rated amount over years two and three.

Bennett criticized the Packers' medical staff and was ruled inactive for his final game with the team prior to his release. He has since said he received several medical opinions claiming he needed surgery.

He almost immediately rejoined the New England Patriots, totaling six catches for 53 yards on six targets through two games. He was placed on injured reserve following his second game with the team.

He caught just 24 of 38 targets for 233 yards and no touchdowns through seven games with the Packers.
