The San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will start Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan will speak to media Wednesday to discuss his decision. Shanahan met with the team's quarterbacks before announcing the decision publicly.
Garoppolo was acquired in a midseason trade with the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2018 second-round pick. The 26-year-old started two games in 2016 during Tom Brady's suspension and has completed 67.7 percent of his passes for 708 yards, six touchdowns, and no interceptions over his career.
Garoppolo replaces C.J. Beathard as the team's starting quarterback.
