Dave Gettleman got right to work.
Two days after being named the new general manager of the New York Giants, Gettleman began cleaning house. He first axed Giants vice president of player evaluation Marc Ross on Saturday morning and waived starting right tackle Bobby Hart shortly thereafter.
Ross had been with the organization since 2007 and saw the team win two Super Bowls during that span. He also interviewed for the job given to Gettleman.
"I worked with Marc when I was with the organization before. I have great respect for him and high regard for his work," Gettleman said. "Clearly, we're going in a different direction, but that doesn't make these kind of decisions any easier."
Since being drafted in 2015, Hart had started 21 of the 33 games he played in.
After news of his release was made public, he got into a Twitter spat with former linemate Geoff Schwartz.
Gettleman isn’t playing. Clearing out locker room cancers. 👋👋. Made it easy for him when Hart came into the facility this week and told the staff he wasn’t playing this week. 😂. Nice try. Hopefully Gettleman continues to rid that OL room of guys who bring it down https://t.co/fcm9BJPOE7

Can always tell the character of someone in times of adversity. Here's @IGotHart accusing me of "quitting on the team" when I broke my leg for the 2nd time in 364 days. Played 3 games that season without feeling in my foot, but showed up every Sunday. pic.twitter.com/SNTt7cTsKO
