The Green Bay Packers are promoting director of player personnel Brian Gutekunst to general manager, following a front-office restructuring that moved longtime GM Ted Thompson into a new role, according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Gutekunst is set to sign a five-year contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The high-level executive was expected to interview for the Texans' GM vacancy Saturday, but he left Houston before speaking with the team when the Packers offered him the role, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
Gutekunst has spent 19 seasons with the Packers and has been a hot GM candidate around the league the last few years.
