John Elway and the Denver Broncos requested for Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield to be placed on his team for the Senior Bowl, and after one day of practice, the college quarterback has already impressed the Broncos president.
"He's a guy that competes. He comes out here and throws the ball very well. He's got a strong arm. He throws with good anticipation. He's had a good couple of days," Elway said after Wednesday's practice in Mobile, Ala.
The Broncos finished the 2017 season dead last in the AFC West with a record of 5-11. They juggled three quarterbacks during the campaign and are expected to address the position in the upcoming draft.
Mayfield finds himself in a group of talented throwers who have declared for the draft. Any number of them could be available when the Broncos pick fifth overall in April.

"I think we're still in the process. At the end, hopefully by April 25, we have everything figured out and know which direction we're going to go," Elway said.
Mayfield reportedly measured in at slightly over 6-feet tall on Tuesday, but the Broncos have no concerns about the passer's height.
