The Buffalo Bills' Richie Incognito and the Jacksonville Jaguars' Yannick Ngakoue have buried the hatchet.
The two AFC Pro Bowl selections met in Orlando during preparations and cleared the air following their encounter during the wild-card round. After that game, Ngakoue accused Incognito of uttering racial slurs, leading to a league investigation.
"I saw him in the locker room, went up to him, said, 'Good to finally meet you,' I apologized for my part in this, and I said I hope we can get a drink here and I can get to know you better," Incognito relayed to Peter King of The MMQB. "He was cool. We shook hands and hugged it out."
The Bills guard said he tried to speak with the Jaguars defensive end a day after their encounter and managed to reach him on the phone a week later.
"It was important for me to be able to speak man-to-man with Yannick about it. It was a reminder how powerful our words can be," Incognito said.
The veteran offensive lineman is no stranger to controversy. He was accused of bullying former teammate Jonathan Martin in 2013 and spent the following season out of the league.
"It gets crazy out there. Real crazy. Things are said and done on the football field that are never said off the field, never seen off the field," Incognito added. "What happens on the football field very often is not a reflection of who we are as people. That's why I wanted to see him here. It's a great setting to talk as men."
King was unable to reach Ngakoue for comment.
