Dolphins use franchise tag on Landry
The Miami Dolphins placed their franchise tag on receiver Jarvis Landry on Tuesday - the first day teams could use either their franchise or transition tag on a player to prevent them from hitting unrestricted free agency.
Rather than let their top receiver reach the open market, the Dolphins have opted instead to pay Landry top dollar for another year of his services. The franchise tag is expected to land Landry north of $16 million for the season.
After two consecutive 1,000-yard campaign, Landry was quarterback Jay Cutler's favorite target in 2017 as he led the Dolphins in all receiving categories. He posted the most receptions in the league with 112 catches, turning them into 987 yards and nine touchdowns.
Landry has been in contract talks with Miami since last offseason and said in January the team had been "disrespectful" in negotiations.
