NFL investigating team that asked Guice 'inappropriate' question
The NFL is not turning a blind eye after potential first-round prospect Derrius Guice revealed that one team at the NFL combine asked him if he likes men.
League spokesman Brian McCarthy quickly responded to the LSU running back's comments on Wednesday, announcing an investigation on Thursday morning.
"A question such as that is completely inappropriate and wholly contrary to league workplace policies," McCarthy told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio via email. "The NFL and its clubs are committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all employees in a manner that is consistent with our commitment to diversity and inclusion, state and federal laws and the CBA. We are looking into the matter.
"The league annually reminds clubs of these workplace policies that prohibit personnel from seeking information concerning a player’s sexual orientation."
This is not the first time a team has asked inappropriate questions about a prospect's sexual orientation. The Atlanta Falcons asked cornerback Eli Apple, who went on to be drafted by the New York Giants, the same question in 2016 and were forced to undergo a training seminar.
NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith is hoping for a tougher punishment, telling Pro Football Talk that whichever team asked Guice the question should be banned from the combine going forward.
