Report: Talib rejected trade to 49ers, wouldn't report

Aqib Talib and Richard Sherman found new teams in the NFC West, but their landing spots could have been very different had Talib agreed to the first trade proposal.

The Denver Broncos have agreed to trade Talib to the Los Angeles Rams, but only after the cornerback rejected a deal that would have sent him to the San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Anticipating the Broncos were looking to move on from him, Talib had asked to be released so he could pick his next destination. Had he been traded to the Niners, the five-time Pro Bowler would not have reported to the team, Schefter adds.

Instead, he was reunited with his former defensive coordinator Wade Phillips in L.A. and the 49ers turned their attention to Sherman, whom they reportedly signed to a three-year deal on Saturday.

Now the two will do battle twice a year in the NFC West.
