The Arizona Cardinals officially released veteran running back Adrian Peterson after less than a season with the team, the club announced Tuesday.
The move frees up approximately $2.9 million in cap space for 2018.
Peterson was acquired by the Cardinals from the New Orleans Saints after four games last season and enjoyed brief success with the team before suffering a neck injury that cut his season short.
The 32-year-old has played 11 seasons in the NFL and currently sits 12th in all-time rushing yards.
