The Philadelphia Eagles selected tight end Dallas Goedert out of South Dakota State in the second round with the 49th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft after a trade with the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts received picks No. 52 and No. 169 in exchange for the selection.

Goedert was the Eagles' first pick of this year's draft after they traded out of the first round Thursday night.

He'll slot in behind Zach Ertz, who led the Eagles in receptions and receiving yards last season, after veteran Brent Celek was released this offseason.

Dallas Goedert Bio

Position: TE

College Experience: Redshirt Senior
Height: 6-5
Weight: 256 lbs

Strengths

  • Very good ball skills. Regularly makes one-handed catches in traffic.
  • High-level route-runner with excellent awareness and lateral quickness.
  • An absolute nightmare for linebackers. Teams may need to deploy larger safeties to run with him in the open field.
  • Prototypical size for an NFL tight end.
  • Solid straight-line speed for his size. Easily creates separation from defenders in the open field.
  • Can be used as an H-back and provides some pre-snap versatility.

Weaknesses

  • It may be difficult to assess Goedert's pro potential after he dominated lower-level competition.
  • Seldom interested in blocking. Used almost exclusively as a pass-catching threat.
