Buccaneers pick up Winston's 5th-year option

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked up the fifth-year option in quarterback Jameis Winston's contract Tuesday.
That keeps Winston in Tampa for the 2019 season for $20.9 million, reports Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.
The option allows the Bucs to retain their franchise quarterback for one more year before he'll require a long-term megadeal.
Winston enters the fourth year of his NFL career hoping to make the leap to elite after a disappointing 2017 season. However, he remains the best hope for success for a franchise with an ugly quarterbacking history.
