Joe Namath raves about Mayfield's 'outrageous' talent
If Baker Mayfield is selected by the New York Jets on Thursday, he'll have the undying support of a franchise legend.
Hall of Famer and former Jets standout quarterback Joe Namath gave Mayfield a massive endorsement ahead of the draft, all but demanding his former club select him No. 3 overall.
"I haven't met (the top quarterback prospects), but I've watched them, and the most outrageous, so to speak, that I've seen has been Mayfield," Namath told ESPN's Rich Cimini.
After watching many of Mayfield's games throughout his collegiate career, Namath disputed the notion that the reigning Heisman winner will struggle in the NFL due to his size.
"Hey, it wasn't just Georgia, it was a couple of years, early on, when I saw him play," he said. "I saw him a couple of years back. I never saw him look bad. I don't know how tall he is. I still don't know how big he is. Size can be a major asset, yes, size can be an asset in today's game. But Drew Brees, his size was questioned many times and he's one of the greatest players who's ever played."
