Rashaad Penny was a surprise pick at No. 27 of the NFL draft, but another team was so hot on the former San Diego State running back that it tried trading for him after the Seattle Seahawks made the selection.

"A true rarity is that we had a team call after we selected him and tried to acquire him," Seahawks general manager John Schneider told reporters after the opening round, per Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. "I've never experienced that. We feel very blessed tonight."

Penny was the second of three running backs to come off the board Thursday evening, joining Saquon Barkley (second overall) and Sony Michel (31st overall). A number of other high-profile running backs remain available heading into Day 2.

Schneider didn't reveal which team made the trade inquiry, but NFL Network's Michael Silver reported the Cleveland Browns were eyeing him for the first pick of the second round.
