The New York Jets have waived quarterback Bryce Petty, the club announced Thursday.
Petty was selected by the Jets in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Baylor and completed 49.1 percent of his passes for 544 yards, a touchdown, and three interceptions during the 2017 season.
New York drafted its elusive quarterback of the future in Sam Darnold with the No. 3 pick in the 2018 draft, rendering Petty expendable. Darnold will compete against Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater for the starting job.
