The New Orleans Saints have made room on their crowded tight-end depth chart, releasing Coby Fleener on Monday, the Boston Globe's Ben Volin reports, citing a league source.
Fleener signed with the Saints for five years and $36 million in 2016. He registered 50 catches for 631 yards and three scores in 16 games his first season, but appeared in 11 games in 2017, hauling in just 22 catches for 295 yards and two touchdowns.
The Saints also employ Benjamin Watson, Josh Hill, Michael Hoomanawanui, and Garrett Griffin, among others, at the position.
Despite the release, $3.4 million of Fleener's contract was guaranteed as of Feb. 7, according to Pro Football Talk.
