Jets' Enunwa: 'I'm probably ahead of schedule' in recovery from neck injury
New York Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa is working his way back from a neck injury that ended his 2017 season after just one preseason start in which he didn't catch a single pass.
He feels confident he'll be ready to go as soon as he's needed in 2018.
"It feels good," Enunwa said Tuesday, according to Darryl Slater of NJ.com. "It's as 100 (percent) as I'm supposed to be. I'm probably ahead of schedule, but I'm doing everything with the guys, running routes, catching the ball. There's really no setbacks right now."
The Jets added wide receiver Terrelle Pryor in free agency, while 2017 breakout star Robby Anderson returns along with veteran Jermaine Kearse.
Enunwa will get his first opportunity to work and compete with this group when organized team activities (OTAs) open on May 22. He wouldn't confirm whether he'll be out there, as he and the team will want to be sure he's fully recovered from the injury.
"I've been able to run for a long time. It hasn't really been a hindrance. I don't have medical knowledge, but I feel like this injury compared to a knee is a little bit easier to come back from. The worst part about it is, if you don't heal all the way, then hits are bad. But just in terms of physically being able to play, I've been able to do that for a while."
Enunwa was coming off a breakout 2016 season with 58 receptions on 106 targets for 857 yards and four touchdowns.
The sixth-round pick of the 2014 draft is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent for the first time at the conclusion of the coming season. He's playing out the year on a restricted free-agent tender that carries a cap hit of $2.914 million, according to Over The Cap.
