Peyton on Luck's return: 'Getting as many reps as possible is key'

For the second time this decade, the Indianapolis Colts are in the midst of an injury crisis regarding their franchise quarterback.

In 2011, it was Peyton Manning's surgically repaired neck that was causing a statewide panic until the future Hall of Famer was ultimately released. Now, the man who replaced Manning, Andrew Luck, is fighting his way back from his own lost season due to a lingering right shoulder injury.

"Everything is an individual thing, so you have to be careful speaking on it since injuries are different," Manning said when asked about Luck by ESPN's Mike Wells after playing with Tiger Woods in Wednesday's Pro-Am.

"But it's also universal. For me, I was a (repetition) guy. I liked to get all the reps on practice. The theory of 10,000 reps, I believe in that. I felt like I was kind of behind because I hadn't gotten the reps even though you have a lot in the bank. It took me a few games before I felt like I was coming back. Getting as many reps as possible is key."

Luck has yet to resume throwing after a setback from his 2016 surgery last October, but Indy has consistently said it expects him back and ready to lead the offense for July's training camp.

Despite Luck's lack of action on the field, optimism regarding his return has been bolstered by recent pictures showing the 28-year-old in top physical shape compared to the 2017 offseason.
