White House: Eagles players 'decided to abandon their fans' by skipping visit
In a critical statement Tuesday, the White House accused Philadelphia Eagles players of abandoning their fans by offering to send "only a tiny handful of representatives" to President Donald Trump's celebration of their Super Bowl accomplishment.
The White House said the Eagles - who were initially slated to appear in Washington D.C. on Tuesday - attempted to reschedule their trip Friday night because of their expected lack of attendance, but proposed dates on which Trump will be overseas.
The statement added that the White House sensed "a lack of good faith" on the Eagles' behalf to reschedule the event.
Trump rescinded his White House invitation to the Eagles on Monday night. Instead of commemorating the Eagles' Super Bowl LII championship, the president plans to host a celebration of the American flag with Philadelphia fans.
