Gronkowski: Who wouldn't want a new deal?
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski reported to the team's mandatory minicamp Tuesday after skipping voluntary practices.
Gronkowski hopes to sign a new contract with the Patriots, admitting as much during his post-practice press conference.
"Who wouldn't?" Gronkowski said to reporters when asked if he wanted a new contract before the season, according to NFL.com's Kevin Patra.
He didn't provide much of an update on negotiations, saying "I don't know. We're trying to (complete an extension)."
The 5-time Pro Bowler also addressed his contemplation of retirement following the 2017 season.
"I was just seeing where I was at after a long season," Gronkowski said. "(Retirement) was definitely on the mind, but I had to do what I had to do.
"I felt good enough to get my body prepared and get my body right again. I had to see where my body was at and where my mind was at. But now I'm out here and I feel good, I feel like I definitely made the right decision coming back out."
If he doesn't receive a new deal Gronkowski will earn a base salary of $8 million during the 2018 season.
