Unsigned Barkley will attend training camp with or without deal

New York Giants rookie running back Saquon Barkley won't hold out of training camp even if he is still unsigned when it begins in July.

"I'll be here no matter what," Barkley said Wednesday to Tom Rock of Newsday.

Barkley, the No. 2 overall pick from the 2018 NFL Draft, isn't the only high-profile draftee still unsigned, but rarely has a first-round pick reported to training camp in the past without a contract in place.

In 2016, third overall pick Joey Bosa stayed away from Chargers camp until the end of August due to a contract dispute with the organization.

"I forgot I haven't even signed that yet," Barkley said of his pending contract. "I'm not really focusing on that right now. I'm just focused on having fun and playing football. The way I think about it. when I was growing up I didn't have a contract, I didn't get money to play, so it doesn't bother me not having a contract right now."

As the No. 2 overall pick, Barkley is expected to receive a four-year contract from the Giants worth about $31.5 million.
