Whoever says American football isn't an international game is wrong. Plenty of countries are represented throughout the NFL, and we've identified the 10 best who were born outside the United States:
10. Jon Ryan, P, Seahawks
Country of birth: Canada
Ryan has enjoyed a healthy career with the Seahawks, operating as one of the NFL's better punters for the past decade. He recorded a 74-yard punt last year, tied for the second-longest in the NFL in 2017.
9. Star Lotulelei, DT, Bills
Country of birth: Tonga
Lotulelei moved from his home country of Tonga, which has a population of just over 100,000, to Utah when he was 9 years old. Ever since then, coaches have been enamored with the 6-foot-2, 315-pounder's size and strength. The Bills showed how much they thought of him this offseason, signing him to a five-year, $50-million deal.
8. Sebastian Janikowski, K, Seahawks
Country of birth: Poland
The 40-year-old Janikowski is legendary for his booming kicks, and he also ranks in the top 50 in NFL history in field-goal accuracy. The Polish star signed with the Seattle Seahawks this offseason following an 18-year tenure with the Oakland Raiders.
7. Tyrone Crawford, DE, Cowboys
Country of birth: Canada
One of the most underrated edge players in the league, Crawford is overshadowed by the host of stars on America's Team. The Canadian pass-rusher isn't dominant in any single area of his game, but is one of the most well-rounded Cowboy defenders, equally adept at disrupting both the pass and the run.
6. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, OG, Chiefs
Country of birth: Canada
The Chiefs signed Duvernay-Tardif to a four-year, $41.25-million extension ahead of the 2017 season, a sign of the confidence they've developed in their Canadian guard. Duvernay-Tardif recently graduated from med school, giving him additional cool points.
5. Patrick Chung, S, Patriots
Country of birth: Jamaica
Chung is rarely mentioned as one of the quintessential Patriots, but he did something no other player has ever done: forced Bill Belichick to admit he was wrong. The versatile safety left New England for one season, but was quickly brought back the following year and is one of the team's most reliable and effective defenders.
4. Nelson Agholor, WR, Eagles
Country of birth: Nigeria
Prior to the 2017 campaign, the Nigerian-born Agholor - who moved to the U.S. at 5 years old - was labeled a bust due to his subpar production and inconsistent hands. However, he broke out after a move to the slot last season, catching eight touchdowns and adding a Super Bowl ring to his finger.
3. Danielle Hunter, DE, Vikings
Country of birth: Jamaica
The freakishly athletic Hunter averaged 8.5 sacks per season over his first three years in the league and is a rising star in Mike Zimmer's talent-rich defense. The 23-year-old appears poised for a breakout campaign and first career Pro Bowl nod in 2018.
2. Jay Ajayi, RB, Eagles
Country of birth: England
By far the most well-known player from across the pond, the London-born Ajayi become the just the fifth player from Britain to win a Super Bowl last season. The bruising back was forced to split carries in his first year with the Philadelphia Eagles, but averaged an impressive 5.8 yards per carry and has a much clearer path to a featured role in 2018.
1. Ezekiel Ansah, DE, Lions
Country of birth: Ghana
Ansah is one of the league's elite pass-rushers, and finished with a top-10 sack total in two of the last three years - including a spectacular 14.5-sack campaign. The native Ghanaian is also adept at forcing fumbles, posting a career-high four in 2015.
