Curry hopes his involvement in Panthers ownership race 'moved the needle'

Stephen Curry's quest to purchase the Carolina Panthers ultimately fell short, but he hopes that just being mentioned in the ownership conversation will help create similar opportunities in the future for people of color.

On the latest episode of Curry's YouTube series "5 Minutes From Home," the Golden State Warriors star spoke to rapper Nipsey Hussle about his interest in buying the Panthers and the impact he hopes it had. (The video was filmed during the NBA season when Curry was still in the ownership race.)

"It kind of paved the way for anybody in the business world of color, like this is something that is, for us, a huge opportunity," Curry said. "To be in this conversation I think is something that is truly powerful and hopefully can move the needle when it comes to the next time that this comes around or whatnot."

Curry, a lifelong Panthers fan, and Sean "Diddy" Combs were part of a group led by billionaire Michael Rubin that submitted a bid. The Panthers announced Monday that the sale of the franchise to David Tepper, a billionaire hedge fund manager, officially closed.
