Packers CEO: Rodgers 'wants to be here,' both sides interested in extension

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his potential contract extension have been the topic of much speculation during the 2018 offseason.

Despite a lack of reported progress, team president and CEO Mark Murphy remains confident that a deal remains a top priority for both sides.

"Obviously, he's an important player," Murphy said Monday, via Rob Reischel of Forbes. "He wants to be here, and we want him to be here. When both sides have a common interest, you get deals done."

The star signal-caller has remained coy this offseason when asked about his desire for a new contract, claiming that reports of what he wants in a new deal are "just conjecture." Earlier this offseason, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said he believed a deal would be agreed upon soon.

Rodgers has two years remaining on his current deal and is set to make $22 million in 2018, making him only the ninth-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. Despite this, Murphy claims Rodgers has been a good teammate throughout the process.

"You know, each player is different, each situation is different," Murphy said. "Aaron has been great - obviously a great player. But my wife says 'it's a good thing he's the face of the franchise and not you.' He represents the organization well."
