Bengals' Dunlap on extension talks: 'I would love to finish my career here'
Although he has just one year left on his existing contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, defensive end Carlos Dunlap says he's not planning to leave the only NFL team he's ever known.
Dunlap and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, spoke to Bengals owner Mike Brown during practice Saturday, and it was reported that the parties are working toward a contract extension.
"I would love to get it done. I would love to finish my career here as a Bengal. We've done some great things," Dunlap said, via ESPN's Katherine Terrell.
"Right now I'm the (Bengals') career leader (in official sacks) as a defensive end. I would like to extend that gap between me and the next. We just want to focus on that and worry about the rest later. Right now we're in camp and back to football so I'm just enjoying that moment and letting my agent handle that with the owners."
The 29-year-old Dunlap has racked up 64.5 sacks with the Bengals since being selected by the team in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He recorded 46 tackles, 7.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception while playing in all 16 games during the 2017 season.
Dunlap is owed $7 million in base salary for the upcoming season and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next spring if he doesn't sign a new contract beforehand.
