Nike isn't renewing Jameis Winston's contract

Jameis Winston will no longer be endorsed by Nike.

A Nike official told ESPN on Friday that its deal with Winston has expired, and the company won't be renewing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback.

Winston's contract expired before the NFL announced his three-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy, a source told ESPN's Darren Rovell. However, the suspension still influenced Nike's decision not to renew the deal.

It's been an eventful summer for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. In addition to the suspension, Winston parted ways with his agent in July, and reports surfaced that he won't be featured on murals at the Buccaneers' stadium.

The 2013 Heisman Trophy winner will miss Tampa Bay's contests against the New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, and Pittsburgh Steelers to open the 2018 season. He'll return for a Week 4 matchup against the Chicago Bears.
