Brown won't play in preseason opener due to reported quad issue
Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Antonio Brown has been ruled out of the team's preseason opener Thursday against the Philadelphia Eagles due to a reported quad strain.
"He won't be playing in the game. He is getting closer to return in terms of his health," said head coach Mike Tomlin on Tuesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. "But he won't be playing in the game ... look forward to getting him back out there when we get back from Philadelphia."
Tomlin listed Brown as day to day last week but refused to specify the nature of his injury.
Pittsburgh's next preseason contest is Aug. 16 against the Green Bay Packers, so Brown should be able to participate in several practice sessions in preparation for his potential first action of the 2018 campaign.
