Seahawks DC impressed by Shaquem Griffin: 'He's for real'

Seattle Seahawks rookie linebacker Shaquem Griffin is leaving an impression on defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. early in his first NFL training camp.

"He's playing surprisingly really good," Norton said, according to Nate Davis of USA TODAY. "I mean, this kid is fast, he's really smart, he's really physical, he doesn't make the same mistake twice, and he shows up every day. He's for real."

The UCF product, who shocked the NFL world at the scouting combine after receiving a late invitation, had his left hand amputated at age 4 due to a birth defect.

"We understand that he's missing a hand - and everybody focuses on that note - but he's a real football player. He's a joy to coach," said Norton.
