Wide receiver Robert Woods and left tackle Andrew Whitworth restructured their contracts to give the Los Angeles Rams an additional $7 million in cap space for the 2018 season, a source told ESPN's Field Yates.

Presumably, the extra wiggle room will help the Rams consummate a new deal with reigning Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, who's been a preseason holdout.

If and when the Rams ink Donald, the new deal is expected to make him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. Donald has earned spots on the All-Pro team in three of his first four campaigns and is widely viewed as the game's best defensive tackle.

The Rams had approximately $1.1 million in cap room before restructuring the two contracts, which was the least amount of space of any team in the league, according to Over The Cap.

Whitworth and Woods both joined Los Angeles last year as free agents and played significant roles in helping the Rams reach the playoffs for the first time since the 2004 season.
