David Johnson may have to wait to get paid.
The Arizona Cardinals and their star running back remain far apart in contract talks and an extension is not expected before Week 1, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora.
Earlier this month, Johnson said he was "encouraged" by recent negotiations with the team but admitted the wrist injury that cost him all but 17 touches in 2017 could be holding up the process.
The 2016 first-team All-Pro rusher is scheduled to make $1.88 million in 2018. He rushed for 1,239 yards and 16 touchdowns in his last full season for the Cardinals, leading the league in touches (373), yards from scrimmage (2,118), and combined rushing and receiving touchdowns (20).
